Remember me? Some people call me Old Glory, others call me the Star Spangled Banner, but whatever they call me, I am your flag, the flag of the United States of America. Something has been bothering me, so I thought I might talk it over with you — because it is about you and me. I remember some time ago, people would line up on both side of the street to watch the parade, and naturally I was leading every one, proudly waving in the breeze. When your Daddy saw me coming, he immediately removed his hat and placed it against his left shoulder so that his hand was directly over his heart — remember? And you, I remember, were standing there, straight as a soldier. You didn't have a hat, but you were giving the right salute. Remember your little sister? Not to be outdone, she was saluting the same as you with her right hand over her heart — remember? What happened? I'm still the same old flag. Oh, I've added a few more stars since you were a boy, and a lot more blood has been shed since those parades of long ago. But now, somehow I don't feel as proud as I used to feel. When I come down the street, you just stand there with your hands in your pockets. You may give me a small glance, and then you look away. I see children running around you shouting; they don't seem to know who I am. I saw one man take his hat off, then he looked around, and when he didn't see anybody else take off his hat, he quickly put his on again. Is it a sin to be patriotic today? Have you forgotten what I stand for, and where I have been? Anzio, Guadalcanal, Korea and Vietnam! Take a look at the memorial honor rolls, and see the names of those patriotic Americans who gave their lives to keep this republic free. When you salute me, you are actually saluting them! So when you see me, please stand straight and place your hand over your heart, and I'll know that you remembered. I'll salute you by waving back!</em><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/26498777-115187117420575544?l=veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Leave a note

When you drop by leave a note let me and the world know you was here! Of a war that he once fought in And the deeds that he had done, In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, every one. And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors His tales became a joke, All his buddies listened quietly For they knew where of he spoke. But we'll hear his tales no longer, For ol' Bob has passed away, And the world's a little poorer For a Soldier died today. He won't be mourned by many, Just his children and his wife. For he lived an ordinary, Very quiet sort of life. He held a job and raised a family, Going quietly on his way; And the world won't note his passing,'Tho a Soldier died today. When politicians leave this earth, Their bodies lie in state, While thousands note their passing,And proclaim that they were great.Papers tell of their life stories,From the time that they were young,But the passing of a SoldierGoes unnoticed, and unsung. Is the greatest contribution To the welfare of our land, Some jerk who breaks his promiseAnd cons his fellow man?Or the ordinary fellow Who in times of war and strife, Goes off to serve his country And offers up his life? The politician's stipend And the style in which he lives, Are often disproportionate, To the service that he gives. While the ordinary Soldier, Who offered up his all, Is paid off with a medal And perhaps a pension, small. It's so easy to forget them, For it is so many times That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys, Went to battle, but we know, It is not the politiciansWith their compromise and ploys, Who won for us the freedom That our country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger,With your enemies at hand,Would you really want some cop-out,With his ever waffling stand? Or would you want a SoldierHis home, his country, his kin, Just a common Soldier, Who would fight until the end. He was just a common Soldier, And his ranks are growing thin, But his presence should remind usWe may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict, We find the Soldier's part Is to clean up all the troubles That the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor While he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homageAt the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simply headlineIn the paper that might say: "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/26498777-114899015596030407?l=veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Latest News

They say the government is going to offset Veterans benefits against those recived from SSDI and benifit I worked for most of my adult life. Aaron William Simons Killed in Iraq By Marie Jon' May 10, 2006 12:29 PM EST Mrs. Charlotte Simons will experience a different reflection this coming Mother's day and all the other days that will follow. Her son, Lance Cpl. Aaron William Simons, 20, died April 24 in al-Qaim, Iraq. Mothers often are blessed with more than one child. But let it be understood that the death of a child never can be compared to the lives of her other children. The lose of a son is devastating. Often, many people believe that having other children softens the devastation. It does not. Mrs. Simons only had one Aaron. While other moms will receive phone calls, flowers, cards and hugs from all their children, Charlotte Simon's family will be missing one grown son. Mrs. Simons is facing the reality that Aaron will never be there to hold and to kiss her. On mother's Day she will not hear Aaron's laughing voice, nor hear him call out her name. However, because this mother firmly believes in her Lord Jesus Christ, she knows that she will be with him again at another time and in another place.( ltr.netro.ca/ee.html ) A loving mom will have wonderful memories of a son, who was so very special. Those memories will have to suffice a mother's grief for the rest of her life. Aaron has gone home and there is where a mother's heart will be. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-24 ( www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=%20Mt%206:19-24;&version=31 ; ) This past Thursday in the Calvary Temple Worship Center in Modesto, California, nearly three hundred people gathered to pay their last respects to a young Marine of grand stature. The family graciously offered an open casket service so that those who attended could look into the face of the man they came to honor. Lance Cpl. Aaron William Simons was laid to rest wearing his Marine Corps dress blue uniform. Brother Michael Simons, sitting in a wheelchair, brought many to tears as he sang "He Will Carry Me." This was Michael's way of saying good bye to his brother who gave his life willingly. It was easy to make Mrs. Simons son happy as he served his country in a far away place. He loved eating SpaghettiOs. Charlotte shipped Aaron cases of his favorite canned pasta. Lance Cpl. Aaron William Simons had many interests. While in school, he formed a garage band called Bucket of Funk and Innuendo Blü. He played the guitar, the piano, and the keyboard. He loved the rich sounds of strings. It was his pleasure to teach his fellow Marines to play guitar. Lance Cpl. Simons was an athletic young man. He often did his push-ups while wearing a backpack full of weight. He was a pleasant, thoughtful man who loved God and country. He persuaded others to join in the honor of serving their country. "Aaron Simons is the 16th person from the Northern San Joaquin Valley to die in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan in the past three years. He was killed after two rockets hit his base after he returned from patrol." Modesto Bee Godly parents understood their parental roles. We can mightily appreciate the loving parents who raised a wonderful son named Aaron. Lance Cpl. Aaron William Simons will forever more be an American hero. His parents understood the importance of their son's mission in life. We all can attest to the goodness and sacrifice of another fallen hero, as a war on terror continues. A war this country cannot an will not lose. God bless patriotic families who have sacrificed so much. Remember them in your thoughts and prayers.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/26498777-114735148429368268?l=veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Veterans Family Store

<a href="http://veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com/">Veterans Family Store</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/26498777-114713607361781704?l=veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

My Bad week!

<a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/472/2200/1600/6bf9.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/472/2200/320/6bf9.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="color:#003300;">I guess I should say if you don't have eyes in the back of your head you best turn and look. This email was sent to me by a Veteran Advocate. I felt it deserved a forward to my lists,,,Russ Make sure you spend your money on May 1st to combat the Illegal Aliens protest Read below for details. WASHINGTON (AFP) Illegal Immigrants' rights advocates, elated by the resounding success of Monday's "National Day of Action," which drew the backing of hundreds of thousands of supporters across the United States, now are planning a national boycott which they hope will have an even greater resonance. Organizers are planning the May 1 "Great American Boycott," urging illegal immigrants -- who cannot vote and who have only limited political power -- to flex their economic muscle. Illegal immigrants and their supporters are being urged to refrain from shopping, and to stay away from school and work. They are hoping to prove that we need them more than they need us. You should take a moment to let that sink in. This is a movement orchestrated by people who entered the US illegally, and then want to scream about their "rights." WHAT RIGHTS? Let's take a look at some of the many benefits that illegal aliens have blessed our great country with: Street gangs, graffiti, drugs, skyrocketing healthcare, depreciation of property value, illiteracy. The list could go on. Actually, the tax money that is being GIVEN to them for medical expenses and welfare is causing the programs for our US military Veterans to the brink of extinction! What do they actually have to offer (cheap labor and a weak work ethic) pales to what they have given our country to deal with. I'll take expensive vegetables over expensive healthcare any day! And now, like terrorists, they are going to attack our economy. The country they came to like locusts so they could reap the benefits is now the focus of their boycott. You've seen it on TV: Marching on our American streets waving their Mexican flags. To all the real Americans, you can do one small thing on May 1st, 2006. It won't be racist, nor will it be violent. It will not be boastful, arrogant, selfish, nor distasteful. It will not be any of those things that our "uninvited guests" have already displayed. What it will do is nullify a movement. All you have to do is; do your shopping on May 1st. By doing this, will make up for what they will try to take away. It doesn't have to be a new car or house (unless you were already planning on getting one). It simply needs to be a day of trading and purchasing American products. That means Hold off grocery buying until May 1st. Take your spouse/family/friends out to eat on May 1st. Get the kids pizza, hamburgers, whatever! Make several trips to the shopping arena. Buy your meals at work. Fill up your tank. Shop for clothes, furniture, outdoor equipment. If it needs to be bought, BUY IT on MAY 1st! Those are just a few suggestions. We're not asking you to spend your inheritance that day, but just to spend more than you normally would. Even if it's only a few dollars, this will help soften the blow that the illegal's will try to inflict on our economy that day. It sounds trivial at first, but if this idea gets around, what the protestor's set out to do will fail. NOW COMES THE HARD PART: This email will not self-destruct if you don't send it to someone. It will not cause bad luck. It will not do some trick or show a cute little animation if you send it to "X" amount of people. You will not get paid for doing it. It will not spread the message though if it just gets deleted, but it will help to combat their effort to shut down America's economy. Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized.    The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records center’s mailroom processing time.   Please pass this information on to former military personnelyou may know and their dependents.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/26498777-114572368348874133?l=veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Just in:

Patient safety in question at VA medical centers DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRSOFFICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRSMEDIA RELATIONSWASHINGTON, DC 20420 (202) 273-6000WWW.VA.GOV NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEApril XX, 2006 VA Contacting Veterans Who Received Prostate Biopsies WASHINGTON – Some veterans who received prostate biopsies in medical facilities of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 11 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico may have been treated with improperly disinfected instruments, VA officials announced today. Although VA has not received any reports of patients being harmed, the Department is notifying all veterans who were treated by the equipment in question, called "a prostate biopsy transducer." VA is also offering follow-on testing to determine if these veterans were exposed to any other ailments. "The safety of our patients is of paramount concern," said Dr. Jonathan B. Perlin, VA's Under Secretary for Health. "VA's patient safety program detected this problem. Whenever there's a problem, we believe in notifying our patients and taking remedial steps immediately." Although VA inspectors found that the equipment used for the prostate biopsies was being cleaned and disinfected after each procedure, some equipment was not being scrubbed by a brush after each use, resulting in the remote possibility of infection. Improperly scrubbed equipment carries a small risk of exposing patients to Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). VA is notifying patients who received prostate biopsies with the equipment in question at the following facilities: · District of Columbia· Iowa: Iowa City· Maine: Togus· Minnesota: Minneapolis· Montana: Fort Harrison, Miles City· Nevada: Las Vegas· New York: Buffalo, Canandaigua· Ohio: Cincinnati· Oklahoma: Oklahoma City· Oregon: Portland· Puerto Rico: San Juan· Tennessee: Memphis, Murfreesboro, Nashville · Wisconsin: Milwaukee Patients treated by the improperly scrubbed equipment will be notified and will be offered tests. The Department is working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the manufacturer and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/26498777-114565596876922085?l=veteransfamilystore.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Mobility Scooters

<a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/472/2200/1600/details.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/472/2200/320/details.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="color:#339999;">I suffer arthritis , diabetes and COPD (thats where you no longer breathe correctly) So walking has become diffectcult at best! All systems are GO for our March and Rally in DC next month! Stage, equipment, chairs, restrooms and medical services have all been procured for the event. Volunteers are working closely with DC authorities to assure the safety and comfort of everyone who attends. In the state of Michigan alone, five Shadow Rallies are planned. Florida has a large Shadow Rally planed for the Pensacola area. Wisconsin, Illinois and California are planning Shadow Rallies as well. Below is a picture of our support group from the Manny Bacon American Legion Post 1758, Hopewell Jct., New York. To learn more about this group and Shadow Rallies, visit WWW.VetMarch2006.COM TIME IS RUNNING SHORT! We need more State Coordinators! We need more donations to cover the commitment that is being made. We need everyone to help spread the word about this March and Rally. The time for our veterans to unite is now. The following is very important - We need supporters to create a media blitz to every News organizations they can find. Let them know you want them to cover the story of Operation Firing For Effect – The Veterans March 2006. Make sure you ask them to put The Veteran’s March dates (25th and 26th April 2006) on their Day Books/Event Planners. Request local cable TV providers run the details of the March (dates, times, location, website) on their community message boards and ticker tapes. Additionally, call your local radio talk shows and discuss the project with them. If you are an Amateur Radio operator "Ham It Up For The Troops" and transmit our information to everyone. The time to act is now! We are also requesting Testimonials from veterans and their families detailing wrong-doing, denial of service, delay of service, inappropriate service, by the DVA or DOD. These Testimonials will be a part of a study conducted by The Most Reverend James Alan Wilkowski, Bishop for The Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest. Please take the time to submit your story to Bishop Wilkowski at: Veterans@Vetmarch2006.com We plan to publish a tentative program and guest speaker list by the second week in April. Until then, please rest assured organizers are working very hard to produce a dignified and informative program that will address a very wide variety of veteran related issues. The two day event will be comprised of the primary March and Rally program on the 25th, and a series of meetings with elected officials and law makers on the 26th. If you can only attend one day, the 25th is the day you should be there. You will find lodging information and local DC maps at our web site: WWW.VetMarch2006.COM. You will also find a FAQ list at our web site that will answer many of the questions you may have. Visit this link for an example of suggested Rally and March signs. <a href="http://www.millionvetmarch2006.com/Quickstart/ImageLib/VVA266.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.millionvetmarch2006.com/Quickstart/ImageLib/VVA266.jpg</a> We have no objection to original artwork and messages; however, we strongly suggest everyone avoid subject matter other than “Veterans’ Affair.” We have received request from several good people asking if they could setup displays and sell merchandize at the Rally. Unfortunately, our Permits only cover the activities and equipment mentioned in our Permit, which was previously approved by the U.S. Park Service and DC police and cannot be altered. We have the necessary Permits for the Rally and March only. We have no objection to display tables or VSO membership drives tables, as long as the displays are issue-related and presented in good taste. It is the responsibility of each individual or organization to apply for Permits to cover any displays or merchandize sales. If you do not have the necessary approval, you will not be allowed to setup. Anti-war or Pro-war literature is strongly discouraged. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. In closing, I will add (for the few that feel that this project is a waste of time and effort), ‘Stay away’ if you feel that strongly my friends. I truly feel sitting at home will accomplish absolutely nothing. Sadly, people that don’t want to get involved look for reasons not to. We pray that by next month you will have a change of heart and join us in DC. It’s never too late to get involved! To remain undecided and uncommitted only hinders our efforts and the movement. We are counting on the American people to make this effort a tremendous success. Our troops are counting on YOU to show your support by attending this March and Rally. Remember, we must remain unified. Gene D.
